Kenny Murk Climbing Up The Charts/ Legend In The Making

Kendall Hannie, a.k.a KennyMurk/KennyMurQ. He grew up in Utility, Kimberley , Northern Cape. He has been making music for 7 years and has no plan on stopping anytime soon. He has quite a few solid projects behind his back. His album, released in 2019, titled Mushroomhill has over 30 000+ streams on Spotify and the numbers keep climbing up. KennyMurk has 4 projects released on SoundCloud. He is a big influence in his neighbourhood and has influenced many, including Ryz053, HeavyTevy, N.A.P and LylieL$D and countless kids in Utility. He is somebody who can do lyrical acrobats around anyone, be it freestyling or writing a meaningful song. I decided to interview him and this is the response.

1. Give me some background about yourself.
"My name is Kendall, but I'm mostly known by my stage name KennyMurk/KennyMurQ. I grew up in Kimberley. I used to be that quiet kid growing up, but I always made a lot of friends. What got me into music was in high school when the homies used to kick cyphers during break times and classes." It is worth noting that he went to Technical High School. "That's when I started getting into producing too and from there everything blossomed into where I am today."

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
"I see myself being a huge influence in the South African hip-hop scene, I also see myself performing on bigger stages and international too, with a big list of solid projects and singles behind my back."

3. What message do you convey in your music?
"I'm very diverse when it comes to music, but a message that is very provocative is what I want to get across. When people listen to my songs they are gonna be like, "Damn! This homie got bars."" He is very relatable in his lyrics, speaking about the problems of the average, hard-working individual growing up in a place where connections are prioritized over talent. He shifts tones a lot, from Murky Waters which is very sad and meloncholic in tone, to Mushroomhill which has psychedelic undertones. His most recent project is Prelude To The Kill, which is a prelude to his next project, Sorry For The Kill.

3. What is your inspiration since you inspire so many individuals?
"My inspiration is the music itself. I remember when I used to be in a dark space. I used to make beats to put me in a better mind state. I was also inspired by listening to other local artists and being very impressed. That made me believe that I can do what they do, but even better."
