PitRadar: Unpacked With Thaydo The Psalmist

PitRadar: Unpacked With Thaydo The Psalmist

On this issue of ThePitRadar, I got to have a chat with Thaydo The Psalmist. This is a word I'm very selective of but man right here is a Legend! And yeah, that wasn't a typo. Legend in uppercase! He is the embodiment of an artiste. I'm talking; Rapper, poet, songwriter, entrepreneur, voice-over artist and also the CEO of Urban Psalmist Records.. Pfrr, let's jumpto the interview!!
Thaydo The Psalmist

1.Yo, Thank you for taking some time to talk to us. Can you please introduce yourself to our readers and tell us a little bit about what you do?

I am Tebogo Thato Mabina, son of Kabelo and Maggie, the youngest of 4 siblings (2 sisters and a brother).

I am man of conviction, a passion-driven creative and entrepreneur. I love people, but I love my own space more...

2. When did you start rapping and recording music? What inspired you?

I actually started writing  and taking a serious interest in poetry at the age of 7. Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Maya Angelou, to name a few, were my inspiration for writing as a form of expression.

As I grew older, I discovered 2Pac Biggie, Eminem, Jay-Z, Shai Linne, etc., and I only started rapping in 2014, because my focus artform is poetry.

3. That's really great man! It's crazy that the arts captured your soul from a tender age of 7, I've been following your music since I heard Matters Affecting The Heart project, I've been a fan since.

Who gets bragging rights for supporting you and helping you get to where you are now?

My Dad got me started. He gave me tasks to do everyday after school which involved reading newspaper articles and summarizing them for him. His plan was to keep me out of the street, where I always caused conflict. I've been a lover of poetry ever since. I even made money off of my friends when Valentine's Day came around. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

My Mom and siblings have kept me going with their words of encouragement and selfless deeds. I have never felt a void when it comes to my support base, because they arent 'out there', but right here at home where it matters most.

4. Wow, they say home is where it all begins. This is all truly inspiring, I hope he is aware of the fire that he ignited!

So with all the time you've had in the game so far, what has been your biggest accomplishment? Do you have what you would call a favourite moment?

He is well aware. But won't take credit for it. πŸ˜‚

I don't have a favorite moment, because I try to live with the intent to create better moments each day. If I should choose from the many surreal experiences I've had, I'd say it's when I started working on my poetry workbook. A guide to becoming the best content-based poet/rapper and songwriter. That's when I broke out of my box.

5. Your father sounds like a great manπŸ˜‚πŸ”₯

That's a beautiful response, I really appreciate your sentiments. How is the book going?

It's actually going great. I already started teaching from it and judging by the growth in  the artists who attended my workshops last year, I think the book is practical and achieving its purpose. So, I'm happy about that.

6. Congratulations on the book🫱🏿‍🫲🏿

To your potential new listeners reading this, what would you say are the 2-3 must-listen songs from your catalog?

That's awkward.. πŸ˜‚ πŸ˜‚

Memories with Donavan Agen

Roses & Psalms with Gunther Rose

Take Me Away

7. How would you describe your music in 3 words?

Introspective. Inspiring. Relatable.

8. Powerful! What's next from Thaydo The Psalmist?

An album is definitely waiting in the wings. But before then, I may or may not drop an EP. You'll never know.

9. Well Thaydo, this has been awesome chopping it up with you, I really look forward to the album coming up and all your future work! Is there anything else you would like to add as we wrap this up?

Just a shout out to the Fam, AMP, John, Donavan, King Mus, Galeshewe Youth Network and Teemaneng  Arts & Tourism Organization. And a word to my fellow creatives: in whatever you do, pursue excellence. It's not a result, but part of the process. Success Is Not A Number, It Is Faithful Labor.

10.This is legendary, you're a legend. Once again thank you for your time!

Many great thanks, brother!
